Japan : History of Kimonos
"Kimono" was originally a term that meant "clothing" in Japanese. However, today it's considered a term that refers to traditional Japanese clothing. Kimonos are useful in a variety of ways since they were suitable for all types of weather. As kimonos came into fashion, Japanese people began to focus on different colors, which let them develop a heightened sensitivity to color combinations. During the Meiji period, Japan was influenced by foreign cultures, which led them to start wearing Western clothing. Today, kimonos are worn for special occasions and are rarely worn in everyday life.

Like you said, Kimonos are usually worn in special occasions like a party or a festival. I like the description and explanation given before explaining that kimonos are rarely worn. Concise but detailed.
