The people in East Asia wear clothes that are just as diverse as those in the West. For example, in China, silk was a very important factor in clothing since it was exported between these countries along the Silk Roads during the first century. In China, elites wore robes or tunics made of silk and tied with a sash. Specifically, the women liked the wear colorful garments. However, the commoners wore short robes over trousers or leggings. However, after the imperial period in 1911, Chinese dress changed immensely. Men wore clothes based on European military uniforms and women wore dresses based on a restyling of the long gown of China's last imperial era, which was the Manchu Qing Dynasty. After the Communist revolution in 1949, traditional dress disappeared except among Chinese minorities. The clothing style of these minority people varies, but generally consists of black cotton tunics worn with trousers or skirts.

  1. Footbinding is immoral and unethical. Not only is it torturous but it is also in direct contrast to equality for men and women. Pictures of footbinded feet make me queasy, and I sincerely hope that it is fully eradicated from mainstream use as well as private use.

  2. This is very informative, although I think that you should add more to the article because it does not go in depth with the topic of the history of clothing in China. I like how you added a picture for reference to the article.

  3. I liked how this explained the history of Chinese clothing because most people don't have knowledge about it. Also, the picture helped because it showed the reader the transitions over time in Chinese clothing.
