Following the Code of Bushido

"The Way of the Warrior"
This is what the samurai of feudal Japan were expected to follow. Rules of loyalty, honor and discipline make up the Code of Bushido. During the Shogunate time period in Japan, samurai worked under the Daimyo, or great lords, and helped them gain almost all the power, even more than the emperor.
Samurai were taught to be kind and honorable, and that includes with the amount of money they earned. Samurai were to never have more than they needed, and to never boast and show off, but instead to help and be humble.
Samurai would never dare to break the Code of Bushido, otherwise they bring shame to their families and themselves. In the samurai culture, if they were dishonored, they would need to perform seppuku. Seppuku is a ritual suicide done to restore their honor in the afterlife. The samurai committing seppuku would kneel down and use a special dagger to slice across his stomach, and if they managed to complete this without screaming, then their honor is restored and another samurai ends their suffering.
Eventually the samurai were relieved of their duties and eventually became members of the political society.
What a way to live.
