Kendama

Kendama is a traditional Japanese toy that is popular among children. The ken (the main body) has three cups and a point so the ball with a hole can fit. The game is played by tossing the ball and attempting to catch it in one of the cups or spearing it with the point. Kendama is very similar to the cup-and-ball game, but the latter only has one or two cups. Although there are many theories, the game originated in 16th century France as it was called a bilboquet. King Henry III frequently played it. It is assumed that kendama was introduced in Japan through the Silk Road during the Edo period. After World War II, kendama was sold in candy shops along with other popular toys.
